31 July 2010 A book outlining the ACA2K network's research findings on the relationship between copyright and learning materials access in Africa, published by UCT Press, was launched today at the Cape Town Book Fair.
Entitled Access to Knowledge in Africa: The Role of Copyright, the book has chapters outlining the research results in each of the eight ACA2K study countries, as well as a concluding chapter providing comparative analysis across the countries and outlining possible best practices that can be adopted by African stakeholders who seek access-friendly copyright environments.
The book, published under a Creative Commons licence that allows a wide range of permission-free non-commercial uses, is now also available online, on the ACA2K website and on the Wits University LINK Centre website. The Senegal Research Team for ACA2K (D2ASA in French) hosted its national policy seminar on Friday 26 March at the main library of the Université de Cheikh Anta Diop (UCAD) in Dakar.
The three team members -- Assane Faye, Nogaye Ndour and Dr. Mamadou Seye -- released their research findings and sought inputs from stakeholders with an interest in links between copyright and learning materials access in Senegal.
The event, and the Senegal team's research findings received wide media coverage -- in local radio, TV and print outlets -- including this piece (in French) by Agence de Presse Sénégalaise (APS).

16 March 2010 The ACA2K Egypt Team staged a well-attended national dissemination seminar on Sunday 14 March in Cairo. ACA2K researchers Dr. Bassem Awad and Dr. Perihan Abou Zeid were on hand to officially release the results of their study and to share ideas with other members of the growing Egyptian A2K community.

1 March 2010 A comparative overview of research findings across the eight ACA2K study countries is now available online in an article in the 2009/10 edition of the Wits University LINK Centre's African Journal of Information and Communication (AJIC). The article, entitled "Copyright and Education in Africa: Lessons on African Copyright and Access to Knowledge", is by ACA2K Principal Investigators Tobias Schonwetter, Jeremy de Beer, Dick Kawooya and Achal Prabhala. Also in this same edition of the AJIC journal is an article by ACA2K South Africa Research Team member Pria Chetty on South Africa's new law on IPR from publicly funded research. 1 March 2010 The ACA2K Egypt Research Team will be hosting its National Policy Seminar on 14 March at the Fairmount Towers Hotel, Cairo.
