Inclusion of Mozambique in the ACA2K network provides the project with a Portuguese-speaking country coming from a Portuguese colonial experience.
Even more importantly, there is evidence to suggest that the issue of access to learning materials has been prominent in Mozambican government circles in recent years. For instance, near the beginning of the ACA2K research, a member of the Mozambique research team was asked by a government official to provide an opinion on copyright/royalty issues in relation to Mozambican school textbook development.
The Mozambican context is also important to study because it provides an example of a copyright law which mandates a standard term of protection of the life of the author plus 70 years, which is 20 years longer than the TRIPs-required minimum of life plus 50 years.
- Copyright Law of 2001 (Lei nº 4/2001 de 27 de Fevereiro que aprova os Direitos de Autor (publicado no BR I Série -- nº 8 de 27 de Fevereiro de 2001).
